Version 1.3.1 BETA

by The Truth '92

www.gtaforums.com

This modification is used in conjunction with a modified version of Silent's GTA San Andreas Radar Zoom CLEO script. This is used with the full written permission of the original author.

Because of the differences between the existing ERP map and the SatNav map, it cannot be used as a replacement if used on a SAMP or MTA server that requires the use of the ERP map for faction use (police, FBI, etc).

1. INTRODUCTION

Thank you for downloading SatNav|streetmapHD by The Truth '92. This modification for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will replace the default radar and pause-screen map with a high quality satellite image overlain with names of all the streets in the game. It was created in May 2014 as an alternative to the available street-map radar mods, and aims to be the best and most detailed radar modification for your game. Again, thanks for downloading!

2. PREREQUISITES

To install this modification to your game, you will need the following apps:

          1. An IMG editor (I recommend Alci's IMG Editor, which can be downloaded here.)

          2. CLEO 4 installed to your GTA: San Andreas directory

3. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

After completing step 2;

          1. Copy the two files from the mod's CLEO folder into the CLEO folder in your game's directory (they're named Radar Zoom Fix.cs and Radar Zoom Fix.txt.)

          2. Navigate to your GTA: San Andreas directory. Click the models folder, and locate the files gta3.img and gta_int.img. Rename both of them gta3_backup.img and gta_int_backup.img, respectively. (Always make backups!)

          3. Open your IMG editing app.

          4. (NOTE: The following instructions are based on Alci's IMG Editor. Using another IMG editor should have the same basic steps.) Click File and select Open.

          5. Navigate to your GTA: San Andreas directory, and open the models folder.

          6. Double-click the gta3.img file and wait for the IMG editor to load the file.

          7. Once loaded, click Actions, then click on Import (remove if exists).

          8. In the Open window that pops up, find the folder TXDs that came with the modification. Open the folder, and select all 144 files in the folder. Click OK when finished.

          9. The IMG editor will load the new .txd's into your IMG file.

          10. Once the program finishes loading the .txd's, click Actions and then click Rebuild to rebuild the IMG file. This step is very, very important.

          11. Once the IMG file has been rebuilt, you can safely exit the IMG editor. You have successfully installed the SatNav|streetmapHD mod!

4. IN-GAME

You don't need to do anything special in-game to use this modification, however, thanks to the CLEO script that you installed, pressing the Z key on your keyboard will temporarily zoom your radar out, allowing you to see a greater distance around you on your radar. You can also hold Z down to keep it zoomed out. When you release Z, the radar zoom will return to normal.

5. FAQ'S

To answer a few questions you may have about this modification;

          1. I've used other map/radar mods before. Why does this one need a CLEO script to run? Most map mods for GTA: San Andreas stand at a resolution of either 1,536 x 1,536 pixels, or 3,072 x 3,072 pixels. This modification's resolution is 6,144 x 6,144 pixels; either twice, or four times larger than others. Because of this, a CLEO script is used to make sure your radar's zoom level is set to 100 when you are motionless, so that the names on the map are able to be read. Without the CLEO script, the names on the map would be too small to read from your radar, requiring you to pause the game to read them.

          2. Will the mod work without the CLEO script installed? Technically, yes, however it won't be at the correct zoom level on your radar, making the text unable to be read. It is advisable to make sure the CLEO script is installed.

          3. I noticed that some of the names of streets are the same on the ERP Street Map mod. Why? See the About section below to find out!

6. CREDITS

A lot of effort was put into making this the best, and most detailed map/radar mod available for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Contributions both big and small are recognized in seeing this mod through to completion. The list is in no particular order.

  1. Ian Albert, for providing the background imagery for the mod. The imagery is used with the full written permission of the author, and the original imagery can be found on the author's website.

  2. Andrei_Musescu, from MT-Gaming.

  3. Wesser, from www.gtaforums.com for his practical advice.

  4. Silent, from www.gtaforums.com for allowing the use of a modified version of his Radar Zoom mod.

  5. Lt. Caine, of www.gtapolicemods.com for the inspiration of this mod.

7. ABOUT

This SatNav|streetmapHD mod started in May, 2014. Originally, it was to be a replacement for the ERP map mod by Lt. Caine. It started out having all of the streets and locations exactly the same as they appeared on the ERP mod, with higher resolution and Ian Albert's 'satellite' imagery of the San Andreas map as the background.

75% of the way through placing the street names on the map, I decided that, although I appreciate the efforts and time spent making the ERP mod, I didn't care for the naming standards used. At that point, I started to rename the majority of the streets on the map to be more varied and realistic to their real-life locations. There are still quite a few streets that share names between this mod and the ERP mod, the majority of them have been renamed.

The map's resolution is 6,144 x 6,144 pixels. It was built using Paint.net software, which can be downloaded for free. The fonts used are:

  1. Segoe UI, available free with Microsoft Windows 7/8/8.1

  2. BankGothic MD BT

  3. Highway Gothic Narrow

The original .pdn image of the map contains seven layers of text and effects, which were flatten to a single-layer .png file. The .png was split into twelve separate images of 6,144 x 512 pixels by hand, and each separate image was then further split into twelve .png tiles of 512 x 512 pixels each (144 tiles overall) using www.imagesplitter.net. They were converted to .txd using TXD Workshop.

The CLEO script included with this mod is for versions 1.0 and 1.1 of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas for PC, and is not compatible with any other version(s). It has been extensively and successfully tested on an otherwise unmodified installation, and I cannot guarantee that it will run when used in conjunction with any other CLEO scripts or game modifications. Any incompatibilities you may experience are most likely caused by a conflict with another CLEO script or mod you are using, and I cannot help you diagnose your issue if you are using other mods that are causing a conflict with the SatNav|streetmapHD modification.
