All i've read so far is speculation about MS "wanting" to buy mojang for "up to $2bil". Though apparently there's also been reports over the years of mojang saying they'd never sell to the big corporations. That article's the only thing i've seen that is talking like it's a sure thing.

Remember that time that google was buying twitch and now amazon owns twitch?

After Notch's reaction to Facebook buying Oculus I'd be surprised if this is true. He's already said he has more money than he knows what to do with. This just seems really unlike him. But I guess if someone threw that number in my face it would be hard to refuse no matter what my past comments were.

If MS is expecting Mojang to produce something as big as Minecraft again then they're complete idiots. The game was a total fluke in terms of the crazy sales it's seen.

Not think a new mojang game would be a guaranteed financial success given the right marketing though? Time after time sub par games will turn a profit, and I think a lot of that can be boosted by pre-orders

Minecraft is a massive deal, and it's not going away anytime soon.. This potential deal isn't for mojang's next game.

And it is done, with Phil Spencer saying they'll continue to support Minecraft across all platforms, and Notch saying "It's not about the money" as he runs out the doors with that insane amount of cash.

edit: Ohh CEO Kaz...

Love that account

Expect Minecraft 2 to come out next year exclusive to Xbone and PC.

Not gonna happen. There won't be a "Minecraft 2." What would they do differently? Their entire development process has always been to continuously update Minecraft incrementally. Mojang will use their money from their new Redmond-based overlords to start a new project. And odds are it won't be a quarter as successful as Minecraft no matter what they come up with. MC was a fluke. Nobody could have expected it to catch on the way it did. And the odds of Mojang repeating that success are very slim. MS should have bought Mojang years ago when MC was just starting to get really popular on the 360. If they think they're going to make a real return on a $2 billion investment in this company then clearly the same morons that came up with the underpowered and overpriced Xbox One are still around. I guess Phil Spencer is the one calling the shots and honestly he should have pushed to build up first party development rather than some stupid "statement-making" purchase that won't amount to anything.

MS bought Mojang so they could absorb the profits they're making on Minecraft. Why do you think they said they would still continue to sell Minecraft on PS3, PS4, iPhone, etc? Because they make money on those platforms. A lot of money.

Yeah it seemed like a money set deal, they're absorbing an empire which sells toys and shit too, it's just going to be weird seeing Microsoft Game Studios logo on anything PlayStation, also had to laugh at Phil Spencer's video, he came across very well so it was nothing about him, but it was the part where he said "whether you play on Xbox, or play on Playstation, ..." I just imagined that picture of the Wii u controller looking out of the window all alone.
